ABV is the best thing that has happened to my neighborhood in a long time. This is the perfect place to come after work or late-night for some food and/or a couple drinks. It’s on the Upper East Side/ Harlem neighborhood but feels like it should belong in Williamsburg. Good food, thoughtful drink list and a cool crowd. This neighborhood is pretty deprived of anything like this and it’s apparent in how crowded it can get. I can usually get a seat if I’m with just one other person but more than that can be a little difficult.
Food: I’ve had good luck with the fried pickles, fish tacos, and gnocchi. The menu changes quite a bit so it’s nice to try out what’s new. While they have larger plates, I find this kind of food is best when you’re looking for a snack to go with you’re drinks or it’s late and you want something to eat, but not a huge meal. Fried pickles are perfect for this. The acid from the pickles goes perfectly with the battered and fried coating and a beer.
Atmosphere: Friendly, cool waitstaff who wants you to be happy. It can get loud when it’s crowded but this is not necessarily unwelcome. It can be nice to be in a crowded bar in a cool-bar deprived area.
